Photos from the recognitions show seniors from gymnastics, girls tennis, cheerleading, field hockey, volleyball and girls soccer, each group posed with flowers or in front of banners made in their honor. For many of them, it is the last time they will wear the Warriors name across their chests in a fall season.
The Watchung Hills Warriors draw students from Warren, Watchung, Green Brook and Long Hill, so the faces in these photos come from neighborhoods across the area.
**Born in a big year**
Most members of the Class of 2027 were born between late 2008 and 2009, a stretch that also gave the area some memorable moments.
- Barack Obama was elected president on November 4, 2008, and sworn in on January 20, 2009. - On January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 landed in the Hudson River. All 155 people aboard survived, and many were brought ashore in Weehawken. - In April 2009, two new ballparks opened in the region, Yankee Stadium and Citi Field. - Just before most of them arrived, Apple opened its App Store on July 10, 2008, with 500 third-party apps. These seniors have never known a world without one.
The Warriors' seniors have spent their high school years growing up with that technology, and now they are closing out their final fall seasons.
Congratulations to all of the seniors, and good luck to the teams as the season wraps up.
